The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF), in collaboration with the SUNY Center for Social Entrepreneurship, is planning a Social Entrepeneurship workshop. It will be held on Wednesday February 3, 2010 at the SUNY Technology Incubator on Central Avenue in Dunkirk. This workshop will be held from 9:30-11:30 am. There is no cost to attend the workshop but registration is required. Non-profit organizations are particularly encouraged to attend.
A social entrepreneur is someone who recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principals to organize, create, and manage a project in order to create social change. This workshop is dedicated to a discussion on how our vital community based organizations can achieve financial viability in difficult times.
Rich Goodman from the Center for Social Entrepeneurship will be facilitating the seminar. Rich has been associated with the State University of New York College at Fredonia for the past thirty nine years. During his period of service he has held a number of administrative positions, including the Director of Lifelong Learning, International Programs and Economic Development and Executive Director of the SUNY Institute for European Studies. He has taught numerous courses for the SUNY Fredonia Communications Department and School of Business, and is the author of several communication related articles and game simulations. Rich’s post retirement assignments include serving as a Research Fellow for the Fredonia Center for Rural Regional Development, a client relations specialist for the SUNY Fredonia High Technology Incubator, a visiting lecturer at Niigata University in Japan, founder of Spoke Folk and the SUNY Fredonia Program for Social Entrepeneurship, and a Principal Investigator for Fredonia’s Community Outreach Program.
The Center for Social Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) is dedicated to assisting community based not-for-profit organizations become financially viable. The program for Social Entrepeneurship provides a wide range of business support services in such key areas as strategic planning, communications, information technology and grants administration. SEP programs include Mission Fish, the Community Peddler, Spoke Folk and Image Makers’s Technology.
Ongoing NCCF and SEP collaborations include grant making trainings, Mission Fish, and Community Peddler.
The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation was incorporated in 1986 as a tax-exempt charitable organization. Since its establishment, the NCCF has distributed over $7.3 million into the community through its various grant programs. It is an organization inherently committed to furthering its mission of enriching the northern Chautauqua community and encouraging local philanthropy.
