NCCF loses a great friend and founder, David J. Doino

David J. Doino, 87, a founding member of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and its Director of Development, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, following a brief illness. A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk.
Memorials may be made to the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.
Mr. Doino graduated from Dunkirk High School, Class of 1940 and served one year in the (CCC) Civilian Consevation Corps. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He attended the University of Buffalo and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He worked as Vice President and Manager for Marine Midland Bank until his retirement in 1986, ending a 35-year banking career.
His commitment to the local community is evidenced by the lengthy list of his affiliations, mostly in leadership capacities. Besides helping to create the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, he was a founding member of Progress Park and the Industrial Development Agency.
He also served on the Board of Directors for the Dunkirk Free Library, the American Red Cross and the Dunkirk Harbor Commission. He was president of the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce and Shorewood Country Club.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, gardening, ping-pong and reading. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Linda (Michael) Roberts of Pleasant Garden, NC and Mrs. Tina (David) Arcoraci of Fairport, NY.
