NCCF board announces asset growth at annual meeting
Sunday, July 11, 2010

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is moving ahead toward pre-Recession assets as it reached a total of $14,197,542 in 2009. In 2008, as the Great Recession dug in, its assets had dipped to $11,997,810 from a previous high of $15,236,000 in 2007.

Executive Director Diane Hannum called 2009 an eventful year, noting that NCCF was able to distribute 124 grants and 243 scholarships, all totaling $361,783, to individuals and community organizations. This makes a total of more than $8 million that NCCF has been able to infuse into the community since it was founded in 1986.

The foundation received gifts totaling approximately $287,000 in 2009. Its motto, "Give where you live," has special meaning because most of its donors are local, and the majority of the gifts it received in 2009 were less than $100.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the “George B. Weaver Jr. Footprints Award” to Doug and Ann Manly of Fredonia (read article>>).

During the meeting, NCCF Vice President Richard Ketcham paid recognition to the late David Doino, one of the organization's founders (read article >>). Doino, who was often quoted as saying, "You don't have to be a millionaire to be a philanthropist," was responsible for the foundation's motto, "Give where you live."

Twelve local groups received awards through the Community Grants Program in 2009.  These were: Boys and Girls Club, Jamestown Audubon Society, Literacy Volunteers, American Red Cross, Jamestown Community College, Disabled American Veterans, SUNY Early Childhood Program, AMVETS Post 6472, Chautauqua Adult Day Care, Ripley Free Library, Chautauqua County Blind Association, and St. Columban’s Retirement Home.

Eight new funds were formed in 2009, bringing the total to 324.

Also at the annual meeting, new members of the board and its committees were elected. See board members>>
