Dunkirk Scholarship Fund announced

Submit forms to Guidance Dept. by March 25.

Scholarships are available for 2011 graduates of Dunkirk High School who are interested in pursuing careers in Accounting, Hospitality Management, Marketing, Information Technology, and Medical Office Administrative Assistant.

To qualify, students will pursue an Associate or Bachelor’s degree at Jamestown Business College within one year following high school graduation. To ensure successful completion of their degree, scholarship recipients will work with a Community Linkages Facilitator on topics such as career planning, time management and finances.

Applications are available at the Dunkirk High School Guidance Office, Chautauqua Opportunities (17 West Courtney Street) and online at www.nccfoundation.org. Completed applications must be submitted by March 25th.

The Dunkirk Education Opportunities Program (DEO) is made possible through a federal grant awarded to Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, the administrative agency for New York State’s College Access Challenge Grant Program. Additional partners include the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and Jamestown Business College.

Application Process

  1. Student should complete the attached application. A non-relative should complete the Recommendation Form and seal in the envelope provided. The student should then and submit both the application and the sealed letter of recommendation to the Guidance Department by March 25, 2011.
  2. Student must meet eligibility requirements.
  3. Recipients will be notified in early April 2011.
  4. All recipients must agree to participate in the Dunkirk Educational Opportunities Program and sign and adhere to the “Student Success Accord”.

What are the criteria for selecting the recipients?

  1. Financial need
  2. Essay (content, quality, neatness and sincerity)
  3. Recommendation form (from non-related adult)
  4. Motivation
  5. Potential for completing Dunkirk Educational Opportunities Program
  6. Potential for completing degree

BUILDING BETTER BOARDS THROUGH STRATEGIC GOVERNANCE WORKSHOP by iklahn
The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is hosting a Workshop “Building Better Boards through Strategic Governance“ on Monday, April 23rd at the JCC North County Training Center in Dunkirk. Two sessions will be offered from 9:00-12:00 am and from 6:00-9:00 pm. Pat Smith, founder and president of “Management Strategies” will be facilitating the workshop.
